Prof. Chris Sumby

Chris is a Kiwi who now calls Australia home. He completed a BSc(Hons) and PhD degrees at the University of Canterbury in 1999 and 2003. He held post-doctoral and fellowship positions at the University of Leeds and the University of Otago before taking up a position at the University of Adelaide in 2007. He was an Australian Research Council Future Fellow from 2010 to 2014 and has been awarded various fellowships and awards, including a FRST Fellowship (2006), an ARC Australian Post-Doctoral Fellowship (2007-2009), a South Australian Young Tall Poppy (2009) and a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science International Invitational Fellowship (2013-14).

Chris is currently the Head of the School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Adelaide where he undertakes research into the synthesis and properties of nanomaterials to address energy, environmental and industrial challenges. He is also the director of the Bragg Crystallography Facility, the X-ray diffraction centre at the University of Adelaide.
